I expect some of you have seen the Fabulous Rare Norah Wellings ' Brittania ' Doll
on the U.K eBay.The Seller, treasurefromthetrove
has very kindly allowed me to use their photographs of this Magnificent Doll for my blog.
She is amazing standing 33 inches tall and it looks like all her original clothes . Her robe is of the Coronation Colours, Chain Mail Vest, Quilted Plumed Helmet and carrying the Trident Fork in one hand. On her arm she carries her painted Shield. The Shield I was told by Norah's Family was a large enamel plate, painted .She also wears cream stockings with blue garters and gold leather sandles
This wonderful doll even comes with photographs from the British Industry Fair and a 1937 Catalogue
I have other photographs that I was lucky enough to find and while researching for my book. I feel now is the right time to share them with you.
' Brittania ' is a Norah Wellings Norene Doll. She is model 3143. Made the same way as other Norene Dolls of this age. Felt head, arms and legs with cotton body. Painted face with either blue or brown painted eyes and mohair wig.
She was made to represent the Coronation . As you maybe aware Prince Georges Coronation was on the 12th May 1937. 'Brittania' was first seen in the 1937 catalogue and then again in 1938 but not in any further catalogues. I have only seen her in the 33 inch display size
She looked Magnificent at the British Industry Fair especially with a Large Norene Admiral Doll and smaller Military Novelty Dolls around them.
It is a great privilege to share this amazing doll.
A Big Thank You To
